Introduction to Snapchat Spotlight

Welcome to Spotlight, Snapchat’s stage for user-generated content: see some of the best Snaps from the Snapchat community. Spotlight is understood as a service as detailed in our Terms of Service. Along with our Community Guidelines, Spotlight Guidelines & FAQ, Music on Snapchat Guidelines, and other related terms, these documents are part of the Snap Spotlight Submission and Revenue Terms (the “Spotlight Terms”). Therefore, please familiarize yourself with our Privacy Policy regarding how we collect and manage your information for the use of our services. Remember to read these Spotlight Terms carefully.

Those are the ‘Spotlight Terms’, which shall form a binding contract between you (or your organization) and Snap (as defined below). Within the context of these Terms:

  •  Snap is Snap Inc., if you are residing or using the Services in the United States on behalf of a business based out of the United States.
  •  Snap is Snap Camera India Private Limited when you are on Indian soil or using the Services on behalf of a business based in India. 
  • Otherwise, Snap covers Snap Group Limited for residents or users working on behalf of a business based outside these areas.

 Requirements for Content Submitted in Spotlight

A user of Snap who creates such Snaps is referred to as either a “Creator” or “Service Provider.” Snaps submitted to Spotlight fall under what’s considered “Public Content,” as stated in Section 3 of the Snap Inc. Terms of Service and Section 3 of the Snap Group Limited Terms of Service.

By Public Content, it means that Snaps submitted to Spotlight will be regarded as a part of any other liabilities and, in addition to those, this:

Third-Party Rights

 You have and will keep all necessary rights from third parties, but this list is not limited to music copyrights and rights of publicity for Snaps whatsoever.

Grant Of Rights

By submitting Snaps, you are granting to Snap, its affiliates, and its business partners the unlimited, global, royalty-free right to use your name, likeness, and voice in connection with commercial or sponsored content for the period of such rights.

License for Derivative Works

You give Snap a sublicensable right to make derivations of your content, allowing Snap and other users to copy, edit, publicly perform, synchronize, and distribute the content (including audio and video) in creating new Snaps and Public Content

No Additional Compensation

Except as a Creator payment (as mentioned in Spotlight Submission and Revenue Terms), you shall not receive any other compensation by Snap, our affiliates, business partners, or any other users for using your content (including your name, likeness, or voice) within the Service, whether on Snapchat or a partner platform.

Eligibility for Payment on Spotlight

Under these Spotlight Terms, we aim to offer payments for Snaps you create and submit when you match our specific requirements. Only a few of the creators who share their Snaps with Spotlight can earn payments. Posts you made before accepting these terms will not qualify for payment. Payments become available through Spotlight for selections made from countries appearing on the official Spotlight Guidelines & FAQ list. Snap always reserves the right to modify which countries belong to this list at any moment. Snap delivers Payments either directly or shares earnings if relevant ads appear on Spotlight that day.

To qualify for payment, you must meet the following criteria:

Qualifying Snaps

Our system measures your Snap content quality for one month using special performance analysis tools to determine eligibility for rewards. To be eligible, your Snaps must have:

  • Your videos must receive at least 10,000 unique views under our viewing standards during this period.
  • Send 10 distinctive Snaps on five different dates during the period.
  • Your application requires at least five Snap submission.
  • We consider the past calendar month based on Pacific Time as the Eligibility Period.

Qualifying Creators

To become a Creator in this period you must follow these requirements during the Eligibility Period.

  • Lawfully live in one of the allowed nations.
  • Set your profile to viewability by everyone.
  • You must use Snapchat for at least one month before applying.
  • You must maintain 1000 followers on your account.

Payment Account Eligibility

To get paid by Snap, one must fulfill the following “Eligibility Requirements for Payment Account”:

Residency

As a natural person, he/she must be a legal resident of an Eligible Country submitting the aforementioned Qualifying Snaps while in that Eligible Country

Age

All persons must be of legal age in their jurisdiction or at least 18 years old with the requisite parental/legal guardian consent according to our procedures.

Contact Information

Accurate contact details must include full name, e-mail address, phone number, state, country of residence and date of birth.

Payment Account

Open and complete a Payment Account through Snap’s authorized third-party provider that coincides with your Eligible Country.

Verification

We retain the right to verify your Contact Information and where you are a minor – to verify parental or legal guardian consent prior to making payment.

Business Entity

Should you receive payment through a Business entity, such Business must be formed and operating in your Eligible Country.

Account Status

Your Snapchat and Payment Account must be active and in good standing, and compliant with Spotlight Terms.

Compliance Review

You should be able to pass a compliance review which may entail checks against restricted party lists maintained by the relevant government authorities. The moment you fail this review, you will not be eligible for payment.

Exclusions

Employees or affiliates of Snap, government entities, and those submitting Snaps for a Business Account are ineligible to receive payment. Further, should you have been consulted in creating Spotlight content under a separate agreement, you will be ineligible for payment during this employment.

FAQ’s

Snapchat Spotlight gives users space to share and discover user-generated content. It is basically a place where the more creative the Snaps, the better; the eligible creators get to make money based on their submissions.

In order to make money from Spotlight, Snaps need to be submitted that qualify under particular performance criteria such as attaining a certain number of views and employing Snapchat creative tools. Payment eligibility and having an active Snapchat account must also be maintained.

In order to submit your Snaps to the Spotlight, you must be above the age of 18, have a public Snapchat profile, be a legal resident of an eligible country, and have at least 1,000 followers.

Spotlight is operational in several countries, while opportunities for payment are limited to certain “Eligible Countries.” These countries are elucidated in the Spotlight Guidelines & Frequently Asked Questions, and Snap may expand or narrow the list of such countries.
